Northwest Indiana’s Premier Tattoo Studio
Ancient Ink Tattoo Studio became a reality when Jeff, the studio manager, shared with family members his thoughts on opening their own tattoo studio. His ideas were based on his 7-year history of tattooing and viewing the technique and results as a unique art. Jeff was intent on opening a place that reflected his art based ideas.
Family members were already open to the art of tattooing as many had been tattooed either in previous years or by Jeff himself. As they reviewed their options, it became clear they were on their way to opening a studio. All agreed, the name should reflect the history and the art of tattooing. As a result, Ancient Ink Tattoo Studio.
The family members are involved in various ways. Chris - dad is the one overseeing the finances and plans to become even more involved when he retires in two years. Mom, Pat handles the marketing and assists in the financial aspects. The three brothers, Atom - is the web designer and also does custom tattoo graphics, Chris Jr., is an experienced piercer and Curtis is an experienced in receiving tattoos as he builds his career in the legal field, to become the family lawyer.
The studio is decorated in framed artwork by Dahli, Gieger and other artists. There are various books of flash, state of the art computer equipment for choosing a specific design or a custom made decoration, and wall flash. Each artist has a portfolio to assist clients in exploring their preferences, the studio is a drug free environment and services are only offered to those 18 years and over. All equipment is one time use. The artists are Red Cross Certified.
The family goals are to support others who are interested in joining the business that are professional and experienced artists. Additionally, they plan on expanding the business and perhaps opening a second studio in a couple years. They are already fulfilling some of their goals; a Piercer and a second tattoo artist. In the meantime, they are enjoying the business, some hectic and fun times and working together as a family.
The family motto: Go big or stay at home. Or is it,... If one is good, then more is better?

I have been a tattoo artist for 8 years now. I love all aspects of this art form from bold to fine line and color to black and grey. Something about the connection between artist and client seems cool to me and the fact that people trust you to permanently mark their body. Before I started tattooing I was a corporate chef for a large hotel and resort chain. The culinary arts is a great artistic form and though I still enjoy cooking it didn’t give me the fulfillment that I get from tattooing . I have worked the west coast for most of my tattoo career, traveled all over the states and I've come home to be closer to my roots. It seems to have been a good move because my family and I have opened Ancient Ink Tattoo Studio which has gone over really well. My family is very important to me and anyone who spends time in our shop sees that; I think it makes for a really comfortable environment.
